I joined the Codementor as a mentor on 20th May 2021.

To get accepted as a mentor on Codementor you need to show that you're capable of providing mentorship.

For this, after joining Codementor, you need to provide your LinkedIn profile and GitHub profile URL.

It takes some days to get accepted as a mentor. Because I regularly post content on my LinkedIn Account and because of the projects I added on GitHub Account, my request to join Codementor as a mentor was accepted within 4 days(24th May 2021).

Getting Requests from Mentee

Initially, when you're new to Codementor and you don't have any reviews or ratings on your profile, there are very few chances of getting requests from Mentee.

So Codementor provides a way to write blog posts that are visible to everyone.

After publishing some blog posts, I started getting requests for providing support as a mentor.

The initial rate of mentoring on Codementor is $10 per 15 minutes. We can increase that any time when we want.

But I decided to go with $10 until I have some good ratings and reviews.

Codementor has two types of work: Mentorship and Freelance Jobs.

In mentorship, you provide 1:1 support to mentees and in freelance jobs, you complete the project-specific tasks within the allocated time.

If your work is good and you're able to provide good support, you'll get a good rating and the other person will directly reach out to you for support in the future.

Currently, I have a couple of mentees for which I'm a go-to resource to fix any issue or implement functionalities in code and a couple of technical writing freelance jobs.

Ratings & Reviews

Not every mentee is going to give you a rating once you provide your support. If you're just starting out and you don't have any review, you can tell your mentee to give a review once you're done with the session.

This is because, after 3-4 days of your session with a mentee, the option to add review will get removed so you can't get a review from the client/mentee.

So you need to keep that in mind.

My Earnings

Earning might be less in some weeks and higher in another week and it completely depends on the number of sessions you do every week and the time of each session.

As far as sessions are concerned, I did hour-long as well as 30 minutes sessions.

Codementor does weekly payout to your PayPal account so you don't have to wait for a month-end.

As you can see in the below screenshot I have earned a total of around $408 in one month which is after deduction of the Codementor fee which is

• 22% per session If your weekly earning is less than $50
• 19% per session If your weekly earning is $50 and more
• 18% per session If your weekly earning is $300 and more

I got selected as a featured mentor few days back.

Codementor selects weekly top-performing mentors who have been providing outstanding support for Codementor users.

If you're one of them then you'll appear as a featured mentor on the top of experts pages and are recommended to users who post help requests.

You'll also get a badge on your profile indicating that you're a featured mentor as can be seen below

Conclusion

Codementor is a great way to help others and alos earn an extra income while doing your regular job.
